About Us
We support homeschooling families --creating learning experiences that nurture curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. Through curriculum support, planning, and experiential programming, we help children learn in ways that feel natural, joyful, and real.
At the centre of it all is a simple truth: a child who feels safe will wonder, explore, engage, and grow, and is a little person capable of making big, positive contributions to their world.
At Halton Hills Homeschool Academy we lead with imagination. When children encounter concepts through this lens first, ideas are planted as seeds that grow into deeper understanding. We recognize that taking time to learn in, through, and with nature is essential for a balanced, connected life. In nature, we grow.
Halton Hills Homeschool Academy was founded by Rachel Mainguy, an Ontario Certified Teacher with over 20 years of experience in education.
Rachel has spent her career supporting children across Primary, Junior, and Intermediate levels, with additional specialization in Special Education. Her work has always focused on understanding how children learn best and what helps them thrive.
In addition to her classroom teaching, Rachel has worked as a literacy and numeracy coach, supporting both students and educators in strengthening foundational skills and instructional practice. She has developed Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), behaviour supports, and differentiated learning pathways for diverse learners.
Her professional practice is shaped by ongoing inquiry into student engagement and Choice Theory, with a focus on helping children feel motivated, capable, and connected to their learning.
Alongside her educational background, Rachel brings a creative and holistic perspective to her work. She is a certified yoga teacher and has trained in acting and improvisation through the Toronto Academy of Acting and Second City Toronto. These experiences reflect her belief that learning is not just cognitive, it is also physical, expressive, and deeply human.
As an educator and homeschooling parent, Rachel understands both the professional and personal sides of learning. This perspective allows her to support families with both expertise and empathy.
